Doubleheader Weekend vs. Santa Clara & UC Santa Cruz

Santa Clara University-
The Men's Club baseball team traveled down to Santa Clara last weekend to challenge the SCU Broncos. The Gaels have had a solid season thus far, and they were prepared to implement what they have been practicing into the game against one of the top teams in the league.
Johnny Johnson '28 stood out as a real star when he stayed consistent for six innings and only allowed four runs in the opening game. The Broncos bucked their heads into our Gael defense and came out victorious in the first two matches. Marson Partain '28 wanted to put the opponents back in their place so he successfully secured an RBI (runs batted in) double to put Saint Mary's five points ahead on the leaderboard.
This lead unfortunately didn't last very long, as the Broncos resisted defeat and ended up winning the third and final match 8-5. Despite this tough loss, the Gaels are maintaining a positive attitude. Club president Nicky Temple '26 says, "We fought hard and I am proud of how we played this weekend". Overall, the Gaels did have a solid performance on defense and pitching. Looking ahead they will be honing on taking more scoring opportunities and not leaving an overload of runners left on base.
UC Santa Cruz-
This past weekend the Gaels got to stay in Moraga and host UC Santa Cruz. Coming off of their rigid defeat from the prior weekend, this group of men still held their heads high and walked onto the field hopeful for a more favorable outcome.
The Banana Slugs didn't hesitate to berate the Gaels with what seemed like unbreakable offense and defense. The Gaels struggled to keep up the pace, losing the first two games. But, freshman pitcher Noah Baez '29 swooped in and heavily aided in securing his team a victory. Baez pitched a complete game and impressively only allowed two runs in route that acquired the Gaels a 9-2 win for the final match.
The Gaels fell a bit behind but were quick to lock in and fasten their tempo. They feel proud that balls were hit well and a teammate was always on base. Their next games will be the weekend of April 11th at home. They will be challenging Cal Poly Humboldt. Be sure to come out and support!
