Annual Gael Alumni Game
By: Isabella Buoncristiani '28
Our wonderful Gael Lacrosse Alumni joined our current Men's Lacrosse team last Friday night for their annual Alumni Game. As some of you may know, this event has been an ongoing tradition for years now. If you don't know, this match involves former Gael lacrosse players returning to Saint Mary's to compete against their younger counterparts. This scrimmage is beloved by both sides as the alumni get to relive their youth on the field and the youth are granted various networking opportunities.
Although this match was not a serious competition that will count against or for the Gaels, the younger generation did in fact put their Gael ancestors in their place. The current Gaels put a whopping twelve points on the scoreboard whereas the Alumni only put up three. When the final buzzer tolled, there was nothing but respect between these two parties.
At the beginning of the year, Evan Salgado '26 mentioned how important this game is for the present-day team. This is because this event is a vital opportunity for young Gaels to build networking connections that could land them internships and jobs after graduation. The Gaels did converse with the Alumni, as they covered topics such as post graduate careers and what their experience at Saint Mary's was like. It is safe to say that these Gaels won't have to worry too much about the job market once they've left. That is one of the many benefits of attending Saint Mary's!
Their next competition will be Friday, February 20th at 7PM. The Gaels will be hosting the UCSC Banana Slugs on the SMC Turf Field. Make sure to come out and cheer on your fellow Gaels!
