A Valiant Effort Comes Up Short
By: Isabella Buoncristiani ’28
It was a glorious day for soccer last Saturday afternoon as the Gaels took on the Sonoma State Seawolves. Our team came prepared to compete against our opponent. The game was an exciting back-and-forth battle.
Rafael Gonzalez '27 opened this game with great defensive skills against the Seawolves. Our opponents were constantly on their toes, never having a moment to relax. Midway through the first half, Sonoma State was able to find a weakness in the Gael defense which resulted in the first and only goal of the game.
The second half began with even more energy and determination than the first from both teams. Anthony Torres '26 drove down the field and made several solid goal attempts, unfortunately to no avail. Our Gaels made multiple efforts to score, but the clock expired and closed out the match.
Our team never stopped fighting and has great promise for the rest of the season. Despite our best efforts, the game ended in a 0-1 loss. This now puts our Gaels at a 1-1 record for the season.
