Spring Home Opener Against University of Reno Nevada
Spring Home Opener Against UNR
By: Isabella Buoncristiani '28
Our Men's Club Soccer team was visited by the University of Nevada this past Sunday. This was the first game of the spring and therefore would set the tone for the rest of the semester. The Gaels had been disciplining themselves hard at practice and were equipped to take on the Wolves on their home turf.
Rafael Gonzales '27 stepped into a new role as center defensive midfielder. Although this was an adjustment for him, Gonzales shook off the cold feet and embodied an integral leader. He completely controlled the tempo of the game and flipped the script into the Gael's favor. Gonzales was the spark that lit up his team on the field.
Anthony Alvarado '26 followed through this ambitious energy with a sharp powerful kick that ended in a point going up on the scoreboard. The Wolves defense was scrambling to stop our strong willed warriors, but their efforts were overcome. Forward Samuel Chose '27 came full force towards the Wolves' goal and drove the ball into the back of their net.
Despite UNR's best attempts, the Gaels were the triumphant victors. The concluding score of this match was 2-0. The Gaels are very proud of their performance and are confident in continuing to be the dominant team in their league. Forging ahead into the rest of the season, these men will be playing "One game at a time". They really want to give their all to the present match, instead of getting worried about future events that aren't yet here.
Their next game will be this Sunday February 15th at 2PM. The Gaels will be at home playing the USF Dons. Be sure to come out and support this awesome team!
