The Season Opener

The Saint Mary's Men's Volleyball team traveled to Santa Rosa Junior College for their opening match of the season. The Gaels were more than ready to get out onto the court and go head to head with the Bear Cubs.
The first set was a riveting achievement for the Gaels, as they won 32-30. Their fundamental strategy and imperative teamwork helped to solidify this initial triumph. The Gaels came up short in the second set, losing 19-25. But, this loss only gave Saint Mary's more momentum to play harder and ensure their successful outcome.
Gustavo Varela '27 put on an amazing performance throughout all the sets. This libero showed up for his team with an impressive fourteen aces and multiple runs to help the Gaels. Varela was also a savage on defense; he prevented countless score attempts from the Bear Cubs.
During the fifth and final set, Logan Milestone '27 propelled the ball over the net and scored the winning point. This sent the Gaels into a mania as they rushed onto the court to congratulate their teammates' success.
The concluding score was 3-2, a Gael victory! Overall, Saint Mary's played cohesively with substantial communication skills and pronounced offense at the net. Moving forward, the Gaels are focused on improving the little bumps in their practice. But, with consistent effort and hard work, these men have a solid season ahead of them!
