Victory Over Cal Poly Humboldt
By: Isabella Buoncristiani '28
Our Men's Club Volleyball team ventured up north to visit the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks. Last weekend the Gaels participated in the Far Westerns Tournament and had favorable results due to their relentless determination to succeed. This mindset was held steady when walking onto the opposing team's homecourt.
Joey Sabbah '28 had multiple timely kills that secured the Gaels dominating the first set. The Lumberjacks cut down the Gael offense in the second set, but the Gaels still held onto their vision of success. Ryan Geissburger '28 carried out this vision with exceptional serves that put the Gaels on a ten point run to start the third set. Andrew Carney '28 worked his magic by closing out this set with his signature kills.
The energy in the arena shifted as soon as the Gaels acquired the fourth set. Middle blocker Logan Milestone '27 confidently defended his side of the court by preventing many score attempts from the Lumberjacks. Jimmy Cronin '28 stepped up on offense and greatly contributed to the 27-3 lead. The clock winded down and the Gaels drove back to Saint Mary's with a 3-1 win.
Despite being a couple of players down, great communication and mastery was showcased between the Gaels throughout the duration of this match. It was a well-rounded game with every man being a team player. This team is never one to just give up, they always persist even in the face of adversity.
Their next tournament will be March 8th in Santa Rosa. Shortly after, Senior Night will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 12 PM. They will be at home competing against Santa Rosa Junior College. If you can, come out and support this awesome team!
