The Saint Mary's Women's Rugby team traveled to UC Santa Cruz this past Saturday. This game was a great opportunity for the Gaels to continue their admirable teamwork and talent on the field.
Some highlights from the match included major breakways, as the commanding Gael offense was able to break through the Banana Slug wall of defense to score continuous tries. This was a crucial element to highlight the on-field dynamics between the Gaels.
Speaking of impressive offense, Aleah Castro '28 made an impressive debut by taking the ball and becoming unstoppable. Her sprinting capabilities were so superb that when she took the ball it looked like she had vanished.
Annika Nesper '28 was a force to be reckoned with. Her ball handling skills and amazing runs had everyone astonished. She played so well that she was named "Woman Of The Match" by UC Santa Cruz.
Saint Mary's defense displayed immense strategy and expertise as no Banana Slug was able to break through and score a try the entire game. This scheme locked in the win for the Gaels.
The concluding score on the pitch was 75-0. The Gaels have shown tremendous effort and improvement in their craft. Their commendable teamwork is worth mentioning as it was the key factor to their success in this game. Moving forward, they are going to continue working on better communication skills and building more confidence in the actions they take on the field.
