Women's Club Soccer Comes up Short vs Sonoma Sate and USF

SONOMA STATE UNIVERSITY
Over the past two weekends, our Women's Club Soccer team ventured to Sonoma State University and the University of San Francisco. The Gaels had been heavily working on amplifying their communication skills and taking more shots on goal. They were looking forward to putting that practice to use in these matches!
The Sonoma State Seawolves brought fire to the match, but our Gaels weren't going down without a fight. Marayah Govea '28 was fierce in her role on defense, making it difficult for any Seawolf to slide past her.
The second half started with shots to the goal being fired from our ladies on offense, especially Emily Jiminez '27. This hungry ambition took over her, and she powered off goal attempt after goal attempt. Our opponents' goalkeeper had trouble keeping up with this, saving around thirty scoring attempts. Contrasting this phenomenon was our beloved goalkeeper Karminna Gaytan '28, who only touched the ball twice in the second half.
These ladies persevered through exhaustion and closing defeat, which highlights their determination for a victory. Much to their resilience, these efforts came up short. The final score was 0-1. Looking ahead to the next weekend at USF, our ladies were focused on capitalizing more opportunities on goal.
UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO
The Dons welcomed their fellow WCC rivals with open arms and some friendly competition. The Gaels showed many improvements in their skills during this game. Some improvements included enhanced communication between teammates, valiant persistence through injuries, and maximized opportunities on goal.
Malia Zuniga '26 had a commanding presence on the field. She was able to showcase her skill set by being able to successfully play in multiple different positions. This spotlights Zuniga's agility and adaptability in pressing situations. Zuniga also displayed major physical discipline by continuously running to obtain the ball, passing to teammates, or making goal attempts.
Despite their best efforts once again, the concluding score was 0-2. Although they may have been defeated the past two weekends on the field, the Gaels are not defeated in spirit. These next couple of weeks, they are planning to focus on revamping their passes and ball maneuvers for their upcoming game on Sunday, November 2nd. Our ladies will be traveling to San Francisco State University to challenge the feisty Gators. Be sure to wish them the best of luck!
