Gaels Take UNR To Five Sets For The Win
By: Isabella Buoncristiani '28
The Gaels traveled up to the University of Nevada Reno this past weekend for a riveting match that left the viewers on the edge of their seats. Last weekend, these ladies had a successful venture at the UC Davis Far Westerns Tournament. They felt pride in their commitment to their craft and were much more confident heading into this match against the Wolves.
The clock started and the energy between these two teams was rigid. The Gaels fell short on the first set, but soon after they picked up their pace and took the cake on the second and third sets. This seemed to have stifled the Wolves, and some unsportsmanship-like conduct occurred on the court. Despite being tempted to react, the Gaels continued to keep their cool. The Wolves clawed their way to success by the fourth set.
The fifth and final set was a taxing tussle. Both teams went back and forth with the lead. The anticipation was high and the audience's eyes were glued to every move. Finally, the Gaels prevailed and closed out this match with a victory. The final score was 3-2. The Gaels walked off the court with smiles and politely acknowledged the Wolves and commended them on a good game.
The weekend of March 7th, these ladies will be participating in a mini league tournament at American River College in Sacramento. Some of the teams they will be challenging are USF, UC Davis, and UNR. This tournament will determine which teams qualify for the League Championships in late March. Be sure to wish this awesome team the best of luck!
